As I’ve said before, Evangelion is a classic for many in the fandom. It brought a company in the limelight and built it up into one of the biggest distribution outlets of the medium to this day, actually greenlighting the division that brings us all this manga! With its characters, the situations, the combat and everything surrounded by it, it’s unusual that the series would spawn such a cheery spin-off. In any case, I was happy with the finished product of Volume 1, and it brings me to Volume 2.

So, what have I done in my absence? I’ve loaded myself on manga. My birthday was last Wednesday, and I only reaked the benefits over this weekend. In this time, I nabbed..

..whew. And luckily for me, Borders was nice and gave me lots of discounts by pure chance! Lucky me! And yeah, I’m through all of that except QKC 2, Angelic Days 4 and Azumanga Daioh 2, so soon I’ll have even more to write about (and even more to be behind on!)!

Ah, Bee Train.. You’ve created such marvelous anime as .hack//SIGN, Noir, and MADLAX. You’ve woven such adequate stories, with human characters and believable backstories, and in fact most of these ideas are completely your own! So now here we are with Tsubasa Chronicle, your first adaptation since 2003’s .hack//Legend of the Twilight. Having been worked on and out there since 2005, it’s kind of shameful that I only jump on the bandwagon now, but nevertheless it was still very worth it. (more…)

Over at Manga Cast there is some good news for Yotsuba&! fans: volume 4 and 5 have been spotted by Amazon, for June and October releases. It’s a bit far off, but better late than never (and I still have to read volume 2 and 3.. <_< >_>) I suppose. MC’s information comes from the Canadian Amazon page, however the publisher’s also ADV Manga, the US distributor, which is far behind the other publishers across the world. But with these dates announced, us Yotsuba&! fans have something to cheer about.

Now, in terms of what I’ve got in store review-wise, I’ve got four episodes of Tsubasa still on hold, with more coming, as well as some manga and anime on DVD that I’ve neglected up to now. Please stay tuned!!

Edit: Turns out I was wrong, Angelic Days volume 4 has been out since the fifth of this month.. I hate missing out. Oh well, yay for me!! (5 and 6 have been spotted if you search it there, for June and September releases!!)

So after my absence, now I’m prepared to get back into the swing of things. Where am I now? I left Angelic Days, Excel Saga and Crest of the Stars incomplete, so I’ll naturally finish those up. Other than that, I’ve got some Tsubasa Chronicle coming along, and for my birthday I asked for some manga (if I get any of it is anyone’s guess though). Also, I’ve been reading up on it all, and I think I’ve got some manga I want to buy:

  • Evangelion (I have the series on DVD, and I think the manga’ll be pretty cool)
  • Excel Saga (same with Eva, I hear it’s much better too)
  • Azumanga Daioh (same with the above, but I have the first volume, I think volume 2 wouldn’t kill anyone)
  • Yotsuba&! (I have volume 1, I thought it was really good, so I wanna nab the rest)
  • Tsubasa (I thought the anime was good enough, we’ll see)
  • Death Note
  • Disgaea 2 manga
  • RahXephon (have the anime, and I like it)
  • FLCL
  • Q-Ko-Chan
  • xxxHOLiC
  • Galaxy Angel
  • Cardcaptor Sakura (maybe, I don’t know)
  • Angelic Layer
  • Kare Kano

…whew. And I still need to finish up Azumanga, Yotsuba and .hack//Legend of the Twilight, but I don’t need more than three volumes for any of those before I finish ‘em. Here’s hoping it all works out!

So yeah, I’ve been gone for quite some time. “What gives?” some of you may ask, and all I have to say is..

1) Switch in interest. For a time, I had just stopped buying new DVDs or books, and I didn’t feel like running through my sets to write about them here. However, now I think I’ve found my balance, so I’ll write here s’more.

2) No money. I just didn’t have the money to go out and buy it either, and I’m too young to get a driver’s license so I can’t go out and get it even if I *did*. I’m saving what I have, and I think I’ll start washing cars in order to buy more books though. We’ll see.

I think I have my act together, so yeah. I hope you like the site’s facelift: I think it’s going to stay this way.

I’m back for the moment, to tell y’all Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Kwanzaa, whatever you celebrate, I hope you have a wonderful holiday and an even better New Year!

Generally speaking, there are two types of anime that you see on TV: mostly the overly dramatic series, and occasionally the comedy. Comedy anime isn’t that hard to find, but in my honest opinion no other anime is as ridiculous (and hilarious) than Excel Saga. It makes no sense, and that’s why it’s awesome. (more…)

In a sea of Naruto and Zatch Bell and other popular anime of today, it’s hard to find the other good stuff due to all the other peeps being obsessed with what Cartoon Network gives them. For those of us who prefer to not watch those shows, that’s what DVD sets are for, and that’s just what I did with Crest of the Stars, a science fiction epic that tells the tale of Jinto Lin. Neon Genesis Evangelion: Angelic Days Vol. 1

Neon Genesis Evangelion is known the world over as one of the most popular anime series, and to some it’s even the best. Whatever the case, it’s definitely had influence on all sorts of other works, and to this day it’s still very popular. Just this year, Fumino Hayashi began work on Angelic Days, a manga follow up to the series. It’s not what you’d expect, but if you can handle that, it’s actually a pretty good manga. (more…)
